Women's Health West's advocacy activities include media work and community education events as well as our work in partnership with all levels of government and service providers through a wide range of committees, networks, campaigns and working groups.
Women's Health Association of Victoria (WHAV), North West Metropolitan Region Integrated Family Violence Forum (NWMRIFVF), and the Integrated Family Violence Services System (IFVSS) endorse Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria's (DVRCV group partnership submission (238 KB) and are calling on the Victorian Government to not go ahead with its proposed 'Failure to protect' legislation.
We strongly oppose the introduction of the proposed laws as they will increase women's vulnerability to family violence without protecting children from violence and abuse.

The equal pay test case story continues as the Federal government committed to fair support of community sector wage rise. The announcement followed a national day of action that aimed to curb the sub-standard pay and conditions for SACS workers in not-for-profit organisations. The case is a major stepping stone in the fight for fair wages for those who look after those most disadvantaged in our community, including women experiencing family violence. Victoria was the first state in Australia to introduce a Human Rights Charter in 2006 and the Government launched a review in June 2011. Women's Health West urge the government not to strip rights during this process and have outlined ways they could strengthen the protection of Victorian women's social, economic and cultural rights.
Women's Health West's Discussion Paper (71.20 KB) to the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department on forced and servile marriage recommends the introduction of a suite of legislative and non-legislative reforms aimed at addressing forced marriage to ensure that women and girls’ basic human right to liberty, freedom and integrity are protected and upheld.
Women's Health West's submission to the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) Code of Ethics review advocates for changes that would see the fashion, media and advertising industries play a more active role in bringing about long-term cultural change; and better ensuring that the interests and rights of consumers, particularly women and girls, are protected.
The 10 point plan calls for a whole of government strategy and action plan for improving women's health. Momentum is building in support of the plan as you can see by the growing list of endorsees.
