1. The land now known as Melton is acknowledged to be the native land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, its original owners and custodians, and home of the Kurun-jang-balluk clan.
2. Melton is the third highest population growth area in Victoria.
3. Around 850 babies were born to women in Melton in 2005. Of these, one in five was born to a woman aged 24 or under.
4. More than one in five people in Melton were born outside Australia. Three-quarters of them come from countries that speak a language other than English. Over 100 languages other than English are spoken within Melton.
5. Around one third of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living in Melbourne now live in the Western Region, and their numbers are increasing. Around 300 Indigenous families are now living in Melton
6. Less than 50 percent of Australian families now conform to the so-called 'normal' nuclear family structure, of a mother and father living with their biological children.
