The HealthWest Sexual and Reproductive Health Working Group has mapped the region's sexual and reproductive health initiatives.
Sexual and reproductive health is overlooked in a range of settings, from governmental strategies and priority setting to school curricula. In many cases where it is given attention, it is restricted to isolated areas such as sexually transmissible infections or unplanned pregnancy.
Some communities experience greater levels of sexual and reproductive ill health, and their specific needs must be taken into consideration when planning initiatives. The western suburbs are home to many of these communities with comparatively high levels of socioeconomic disadvantage, many culturally and linguistically diverse communities and growing numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, among others. This report offers findings and recommendations based on our review of 69 sexual and reproductive health programs and services from 23 agencies.
